How to Tell the Difference between Mind Chatter and Authentic Spirit Communication
Students in my classes often ask me, “How can I tell the difference between true spirit messages coming to me and my own imagination?” Let’s talk about this.
When we are awake, our mind is busy all the time. It’s planning, tasking, and problem-solving. It also allows us to daydream and even imagine our dreams and wishes being fulfilled. We frequently see these thoughts in picture form. For example, you are thinking of buying a new couch and imagine in your mind what it will look like. Maybe you are daydreaming about getting away for a weekend fishing trip. We are creating in our mind all the time!
Some of these pictures come from helpful spirits. Spirits reside in a dimension called the Astral Plane—or as some call it, the Spirit Plane. Many of our intuitive thoughts and pictures come to us directly from this plane. Although there are many levels to this plane, helpful spirit guides reside in its mid to higher frequency level bands. Angels, Ascended Masters, and Avatars are ensconced in even higher frequency bands. These realms do exist and can provide us with guidance and answers to what we would like to know. Often, they communicate with us through our psychic faculty called, Clairvoyance.
Clairvoyance happens in our mind’s eye which some call the Third Eye. Our natural faculty of Clairvoyance is where relevant images come to us from the spirit world. Through this imaging faculty we can begin to practice asking for and receiving pictorial answers. So, how can we tell the difference from our own wishful thinking as opposed to what is actually coming from the realm of spirit? Admittedly, it takes practice. The following is a helpful technique to start increasing the power and clarity of clairvoyance imaging.
Try a Fun Exercise Right Now
Start to envision a river. See its waters moving rapidly. Notice the details of the river such as the color of the water, any boulders which may poking up, eddies or whirlpools, little side pools filled with fish serenely swimming, and finally the landscape on either side of the river. Next, see this river flowing into the infinite distance. Now let this imagery fade away. Practice doing this a couple of times. It’s an excellent technique for starting the flow of Clairvoyance.
Here’s Where the Real Fun Begins
Ask the spirit world, “Show me something randomly.” This takes patience but just wait until an image pops into your mind without thinking about it first. If you haven’t already thought about this particular image, you can count on it being something from the spirit world. Got it? Now let the image fade away and completely clear your mind.
Now ask the spirit world, “Show me something that has significant meaning for me.” Wait… wait… wait… Don’t force it! Soon, an image will pop into your mind. Whether it makes sense to you at the time or not, you will probably realize it’s something you would have never created in your own mind. The more you practice this, the clearer the pictures will become.
Now think of a person that is close to you like a good friend or family member no matter how close or far they live from you. Ask the spirit world, “Show me something for this person.” You may be surprised at the results. The spirit world will show you something that relates to them. For example, you see a car that is broken down or with the hood up. You can ask them, “Have you recently had a problem with your car?” And they say, “Yes, actually. My car battery failed last week, and I had to have it replaced.”
This exercise is superb for people who are mediums or are beginning Mediumship development. If this exercise is practiced often, clear images of places, objects, people or even pets, will start coming through. Perhaps names, dates, and relevant information about a particular situation will start coming in as well. I always ask students to keep track of what they perceive, including unrelated tidbits of information, in a personal psychic journal seen only by them. This can be done on paper or in a computer document file which is kept confidential. When looking back, some pieces of information received may make sense at a later time.
Get Some Answers:
Think of something you would like to know about or is possibly coming in the near future. Perhaps you desire a new job. Do what is suggested above and relax. See what images come in. It is important to relax and not force images to happen. You may even “hear” or sense words accompanying any images you get. Put anything received in your journal and look at it later. I can’t promise it will make sense to you at the time, but eventually messages will have relevance.
