How to give the best psychic readings is something that you can quickly master.
What many newbie psychics don’t realize is that providing a top-notch reading doesn’t always have to do with accuracy. Of course, accuracy is highly important. However, how you conduct a reading and managing your clients is also paramount.
Ultimately, a smooth, professional psychic reading will provide an excellent experience for your clients and keep them coming back.
Tip #1: Really Know Your Craft
Only through acquiring substantial practical expertise, will you have the know-how for giving an excellent reading. For example, if you are giving a paid Oracle Card reading, the reading should be smooth and full of valid insights. Additionally, you should be able to explain why you communicated specific pieces of information.
Importantly, the cards are in front of you both, so it’s entirely alright to point to a card, or a group of cards, to explain your observations. If you are not using cards and are doing a subjective type reading, such as Mediumship, be confident, clear, and stick to your guns about what came through.
Tip #2: Tell Your Client What to Expect
If a client is new and doesn’t know how you work, it’s up to you to give them a brief rundown on what to expect. Let’s start with an Akashic Records reading as an example. Advise your client that it will take a few moments to get into an altered state to access their records.
Another good example is when giving a Mediumship reading. Importantly, counsel your client before the session by letting them know how spirits communicate with you. Also, advise your client on how you will validate that the spirit coming through is actually the spirit they are seeking for contact.
Tip #3: Ask Clients What They Want To Know
Ask clients what they wish to find out from the reading prior to starting. This part may seem like a given; however, sometimes clients are unsure of what their most vital questions are until you ask them. Clearly, knowing questions beforehand sets the tone for how you will proceed.
If a client has too many questions to fit into one session, let them know that you will attempt to answer all their concerns but that you will be starting with the most pressing issues. Specifically, ask them what these are. It’s perfectly okay for you to write them down.
Tip #4: Have a Solid Method in Place
Make sure you have a solid method of how you read solidly in place so you will not appear amateurish. Psychic readings need to be delivered with the information flowing smoothly. Have a set method for the kind of sessions you provide. Signs of amateurish readings include:
- being hesitant and jerky with delivery of interpretations
- agonizing at length over one card
- repeatedly asking what the question was
- changing your mind about what a card means
- often providing conflicting information
All these things signal a lack of professionalism and expertise.
Tip #5: Clients Push Readers to Provide Desired Outcomes
Experienced psychic readers know this scenario all too well. A client will contact you and if you are seated in person will look at you with imploring eyes as if to say, “I want the answer to this question to be a YES!!”
A client may be desperate or have expectations of hearing a particular answer. If you don’t see this, you will need to gently remind them that the answers provided are not always going to be what they want to hear.
This part is one of the most significant challenges for a reader. If this happens to you, provide positive alternatives and the brighter side of the picture. Also, look down the road and point out new opportunities coming their way.
Tip #6: What to Do If You Get Stuck
If the flow of information seems to trickle down or you aren’t getting any clarification at all, you don’t need to tell the client that you’ve hit a wall. Stay calm. Let the client know that you are going deeper within for a moment or two. Doing this gives you the opportunity to reconnect with the flow.
Also, don’t forget to consult with your higher guidance mentally. If you don’t panic and relax, the flow of information will begin again. Another tip is to go back to where you were getting the most significant threads of information. New insights may start to flow into your psychic channels.
Tip #7: Make Sure Your Client Is Hearing You
At times, clients can be distracted. Or a client may be so fearful of what they might hear; they space out. It’s up to you to bring your client back into the moment. At intervals, ask your client if they have fully understood what you’ve been saying thus far. If not, you may need to repeat a few things—more than once. Importantly, this advice applies when giving distance readings as well.
Tip #8: Beware of Mirroring Your Client’s Emotions
If you are a seasoned reader, then you know that sessions can get emotional. Tears may begin to flow, and sometimes on rarer occasions, an individual may suddenly start sobbing, especially in a Mediumship session. Please don’t start tearing up or start crying right along with your client. I call this, “mirroring emotions.”
Despite what you may have seen on television shows, bursting into tears is unprofessional. Just be understanding, kind, and softly offer words of compassion and understanding. You can even take hold of their hands. But to rush over and hug them is not a good idea.
If an emotional response happens to you, give a client sufficient time to compose themselves and ask if they are ready to continue with the reading. After the session is ended, a hug is perfectly okay.
Tip #9: Keep Clients from Milking More Questions
Keep an eye on the time. Towards the end of a session, always taper off the reading with, “Our time is about up now. Do you have one last quick question?” Additionally, it’s common for clients to keep asking questions even as you are walking them to the door.
Be firm but friendly and tell them that the session has ended. Remind your client to reschedule another appointment if they haven’t already done so.
If you have the time, you can ask your client if they want to add additional minutes to their session. Make sure they can pay for this. Remember that you are in a business. If you feel the inclination, you might allow your client a little more time for free. However, watch for individuals that want to take advantage of you.
Tip #10: Honesty and Integrity Is Paramount
Giving a reading done with honesty and integrity is vital and can be done with sensitivity.
The best approach is to focus on your client’s sensitivity and emotional state. However, you must be truthful about what you intuitively perceive. Too often amateur or fraudulent psychic readers mask the true nature of what they are receiving.
Some unscrupulous individuals purposely give out false information or pad the reading with additional fluff. They do this to impress clients and to ensure their client is happy with the reading. However, this it usually ends up backfiring.
The truth will come to light eventually. The best practice is always to perform an honest reading with integrity. Otherwise, you may be dealing with an angry client later or begin to lose clients as word spreads of gross inaccuracies. There are ways to deliver unwanted or unhappy pieces of information in kind and gentle way. I always point out better alternatives or outcomes that I see coming in my client’s future. This helps to soften the blow.
Tip #11: Always End a Session with Something Positive
Always end your reading session on a positive note. As mentioned in tip number 19, if a client hasn’t received the answers they were hoping to get, the reading can become a dismal affair.
Always provide positive alternatives to give clients hope and make sure the reading ends on a higher note. This is not hard to do because, as a seasoned professional, you will have already received this information at some point during the reading.
Keep assuring the client that all will work out well in the long run and to have faith. Perhaps not in the way they envisioned, but seemingly adverse situations are always resolved by the universe in time. However, remember this piece of sage advice. You won’t please every client all the time. It’s just not possible. You do the best that you can and then move on.
Tip #12: Doing Too Many Readings Can Lead to Burn-Out
Doing professional intuitive readings can be exhaustive and most don’t realize this. Make it a practice to schedule only what you are capable of or space out the time you’ve allotted for giving readings during in a day’s time.
Reading on a psychic line or in a metaphysical store may prevent you from spreading out readings. Believe me when I say that I know what this is like. In these settings, make sure that you remember to quickly protect yourself from the energy of your clients and clear your aura thoroughly after each reading.
If you read with cards, also make sure that your cards are cleared in-between readings as well. This will keep you sharp, your energy high, and prevents you from picking up left-over informational artifacts from a previous reading. (I know some readers that always do a quick chakra clearing after each reading.)
Tip #13: We All Make Mistakes in Readings
As psychic readers, we all make mistakes. It happens. Realize that you are human too and that sometimes an interpretation, or an outcome may turn out differently from what you predicted. Additionally, a client may take a different course of action than what was seen in an earlier reading. As a result, the information provided may no longer be valid.
An unexpected or adverse outcome is not necessarily your fault. Things can change because only we are the agents of our own destiny. Chalk it up to experience and don’t be too hard on yourself. As long as you do the best that you can in the moment, that’s all that you can do. Let it go and move forward.
- Importantly, have substantial practical experience in your chosen intuitive field.
- Most important, be professional when doing a reading and stick to a reading method.
- Specifically, always tell clients how you work and what to expect during a reading.
- Next, ask clients what they mainly want to know.
- Practice what you will do or say if you get stuck during a reading.
- Don’t allow clients to coerce you into giving a desired answer.
- Watch for distraction or spaciness of a client during a reading.
- Clearly, show kindness and compassion, but don’t get emotionally caught up.
- Have a plan for making a future appointment.
- Make sure the client is satisfied before they leave but don’t keep answering questions as you walk them out.
- Always be a positive and caring force for the client and end a session on an upbeat note.
- Finally, take care of your energy and ensure that you don’t become to tired or drained.
- Ultimately, It’s vital to forgive yourself for mistakes made in a reading.
