A Medium is someone who can communicate with spirits on behalf of another living being. The word suggests that the medium acts as a midway point, halfway between the worlds of the living and the dead. There are many sub categories of mediums.
There are several kinds of Medumship. Mental Mediumship is where the medium is in full control of their own faculties and can make the spirit connection while completely aware. Mental mediums have the abilities to make the required connection and relay messages to others present. Physical Mediumship is a medium that can go into a very deep trance state and with the help of their special spirit guides and controls, produce phenomena such as ectoplasm, sounds outside of themselves, music, spirit lights, apports (objects “coming out of nowhere”) and a host of other types of spirit phenomena. Many confuse the art of Mediumship with Channeling and Carol personally believes they are not to be confused with one another. (See below for an explanation of what Channeling is.) Trance Mediumship is where the Medium will allow themselves to drop into a very deep state of altered consciousness with the intention of allowing their special guides to work through them. This is very similar to Physical Mediumship, however, there is usually NO intentioned physical tangible phenomena that takes place. On rare occasions, physical events can happen.
A Psychic is an individual that uses their innate or developed 6th sense abilities to give an intuitive reading to a person by “tuning in” with that person’s energy field (either in person or by distance). In doing so, they can offer up specific information to help the individual in their life’s journey, answer pressing questions, and provide overall basic guidance. Very often a gifted psychic can tune into future events and help the individual avoid major pitfalls. Mediums can also be a trained psychic but not all psychics are mediums. In fact, many psychics have the ability, but choose not to pursue or develop it. A Clairvoyant is very much the same but focuses on their third eye to receive images and interpret these images for self or for a client. Sometimes a clairvoyant will receive images of a universal nature that could indicate a future event for a personal or global event. This is called “precognition”.
A Channel is an individual who has the ability to access what we term higher beings receiving and passing along vital spiritual concepts. Messages are often relayed vocally or, in some cases, obtained by means such as automatic writing (see explanation below) and similar methods. Channels are more focused on the overall picture rather than communicating directly with departed loved ones and friends, etc. Channeled messages could originate from the ascended master teachers, spirit guides, angels, or from our own higher self. This information is primarily received for the good of mankind and imparts spiritual understanding, and addresses questions of an esoteric nature. There are times during a séance or in a Mediumship circle that one more mediums will channel healing messages to the group or, in more rare cases, for a specific individual.
With the proper training, dedication, practice, and mindset, almost anyone can become a medium! Of course, there are some folks who have everything they need to be a Medium early in life and will most likely have experienced spirits coming to them already. These types of individuals only require some learning tools and management of their abilities so they are not constantly bombarded by spirits all the time. Some people have this ability and choose to ignore it, some are frightened by it, and some feel the calling to make it a vocation. On another note, some people, even children, see ghosts (what we call earthbound spirits) quite a bit. This can be very scary for the uneducated and untrained individual. Can one make this stop. Most likely if the desire is deep enough to cut it off. There are many types of ghosts or earthbound spirits (read next).
Earthbound Spirits (often referred to as ghosts) are spirits who for whatever reason, either elect not to make the full crossing to the astral realms where most spirits reside, or are so traumatized by death, they actually don’t know they are dead and wander the earth plane out of sight. These spirits can be intelligent, meaning they can interact with the living, or are just residual imprints or shells that reply their death over and over causing what is called, “a haunting”. Are earthbound spirits demons? No. Contrary to popular television shows that depict ghosts as demons, most are not! There are some spirits, however, who ARE malicious or evil intending and try to cause problems for the living. In The Mediumship Home Study Course and program by phone, we delve deeply into the issue of earthbound spirits and how to deal with them.
Frankly no. This is an extremely rare event. Extremely rare!! While doing Mediumship sittings, encountering a Demon is almost unheard of and only when someone summons one! I advise people not to do this. And, unlike what you might see on ghost hunting shows, demons are not in every dark corner. They will, however, try to influence the living and pick someone who is either highly vulnerable like an adolescent, or someone who seeks them out. If you go looking for one, however, you just might get more than you bargained for! So don’t!!
The Ouija Board, also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet and has other symbols on it. The “talking board” has been around for a long time and many spiritists in the 19th century loved to use one. The Ouija board has gained very bad press over the last ten to twenty years due to Hollywood movies and the like. Although with the proper protection techniques it can be used in a Ghost Hunting expedition or in certain circumstances, my advice is don’t! The Medium will have the sufficient abilities and powers to communicate, not only with friendly spirits, but in a haunting situation as well without having to resort to this or any other kind of divination, e.g., Tarot Cards. The only exception to this is Table Tipping. Table tipping is very safe if one works with the light and divine energies, but can be exhausting!
This has to be the decision of the student. Doing Mediumship is not evil or dangerous. If in one’s heart, the desire and/or abilities are there, pursuing Mediumship training has to be very carefully thought out. In our classes, we teach individuals how to overcome any bad stigma attached to the practice of Mediumship. In the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, there are warnings about someone practicing Mediumship with dire consequences. This is because the priests of the day wanted complete power. Same applies to the in the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages.
In the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, there are warnings about someone practicing Mediumship resulting in dire consequences. This is because the priests of the day wanted complete power and status over the people. The New Testament tells a different story.
A person who fully studies Mediumship and is serious about their craft will not fail! Sometimes it does take some longer than others for everything to click into place. As a Medium individuals will be using their inborn intuitive abilities of Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Clairsentience, Empathic Senses, and Claircognizance (a knowing) to make a true connection with the realm of spirits. If one gives up too quickly, than frustration and disappoint sets in. Don’t let this happen to you. If one hangs int here and practices weekly with a small group, confidence and contact will become automatic! It is a truly a beautiful thing to experience connection with crossed-over loved ones and other friendly spirits. If one decides to become a professional Medium, it is a wonderful and heart-felt experience helping others through grief and becoming convinced of the true existence of the afterlife.
Unfoldment is simply a person who is developing their Mediumistic abilities, either on their own, or with a teacher or group. The various stages of progress in making true spirit contact, is what unfoldment means. This progress can be either slow or fast, but we like our students to progress more slowly. Burnout is a very real thing if one tries to develop very fast.
