Mediumistic skills are like any other skill. Significantly, everyone has inherent spirit communication abilities to some degree. With this in mind, through training and experience, these skills can be developed and refined into a consistent set of reliable steps for making spirit contact.
Not surprising, many people have had some kind of contact with the spirit world at some point in their lives. However, they may not realize it’s a spirit attempting to make contact.
Notably, spirit contact events, whether by intent or happenstance, can occur in a variety of ways. They present as a feeling, a gentle touch, a familiar scent, or a strong sense there’s a spiritual presence that feels warm and comforting close by you.
So, whether you want to contact someone you know in spirit, help others by giving spirit messages, or learn your best Mediumship psychic sense, there are numerous psychic development techniques that anyone serious about spirit communication can master.
Firstly, How Is It Possible for Spirit Connections to Take Place?
The answer is basic physics. Simply put, as an energetic being and element of the universe, you’re already linked to its energy. You are already plugged in. Moreover, the spirit world is made up of this very same energy. This fact is how and why you’re able to connect.

In the mediation, you’ll be meeting a spirit visitor. Importantly, it’s best at this time not to call in someone you know or desperately wish to communicate with. Doing this may hold you back from accomplishing the point of the exercise. More importantly, if a loved one does happen to come to you, this may cause emotional feelings that overcome you and stop the process. Gently let this person go for now and ask for someone else to come to you. It could be a spirit guide, an angel, or someone you’ve not met before. Keep an open mind. Now, let’s begin.
Meditation to Determine Your Set of Mediumistic Psychic Abilities
- Find a secluded place where you won’t be interrupted. Take three deep relaxing breaths through your nose and out your mouth. Focus on your first breath to clear your body, the second breath to open your mind, and the third breath to free your spirit.
- Now, consciously form the thought: “This is my time to be one with the energetic powers of the universe and for these energetic powers to be one with me.”
- Equally important, now set an intention for making spirit contact using all your psychic senses.
- Your next step is to see yourself sitting on a bench in a beautiful garden. Around you are vibrant flowers and trees. The air smells fresh and clean. Moreover, you know that you are highly protected in this garden and that only higher energy spirits can connect with you. You are now ready to receive a spirit visitor!
- In the distance, you notice a spirit visitor approaching. Allow your first psychic sense which has naturally activated, to open more fully. What do you notice first? Is it a voice, a sound, a tingly sense that the spirit is present? Perhaps you’re aware of a pleasant scent. What do you notice first? File this revelation away in your consciousness.
- Now, welcome your spirit visitor and communicate to him or her by using the psychical sense that activates first and feels most natural.
Push this Psychic Sense
- Now push this psychic sense, meaning that you place an intense focus on it to utilize it to the fullest capacity you are capable of at this time. If nothing happens and you begin to feel frustrated, this is a critical indicator that you are trying too hard. Clearly, your conscious mind is trying to take over. If this occurs, back away and repeat this part until you are comfortable and relaxed once more.
- Next, choose another psychic sense. For example, if the initial sense that activated was clairaudience (the psychic sense of clear-hearing), choose clairvoyance (the psychic sense of clear-seeing). Concentrate on perceiving visual images associated with your spirit visitor in your inner mind. Rather than focusing strongly on these images, let them appear or disappear the way they naturally come into your mind. Often, visual images first perceived are fragments or bits and pieces of something. This is common for beginner mediums. Soon, images seen will become more fully formed and clear.
- At this point, you can work with any other psychic senses such as claircognizance (clear-knowing), clairsentience, (clear-feeling or sensing), or clairaulience (clear-smell).
Your Spirit Visitor Is Patiently Waiting…
- Right now, your spirit visitor is patiently waiting to give you a message. Mentally ask them to relay the message. You’ll know right away the primary psychic sense that you are receiving the message with. At first, this may seem difficult, but if practiced enough, you’ll begin to rely on the psychic sense that is initially activated.Be aware that this sense can change to another one over time. Why is this? It’s due to the fact that when working with our psychic senses, they’re always growing and evolving.
- When you feel complete with the message, gentle release the concentration you’re using to activate your psychic sense. Now, return to the sense that was first activated and use this sense to communicate thank you and good-bye to the spirit that came through.
- Finally, again take three deep breaths through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Open your eyes and touch something to ensure you are fully awake and aware. Wriggle your fingers and toes if you wish. Take some water and download your worksheet, which is below for this meditation.
Practicing a meditation like this for the first time, may yield very little in the sense of knowing the current strengths of your psychic senses. If faithfully practiced, in a short while, you’ll have acquired the knowledge of which psychic senses for making spirit contact are your best to focus on.
Elizabeth Owens in her book, “How to Communicate with Spirits,” says that it’s important to stress that everyone develops in his or her unique way and I totally agree with this statement.
A gentle reminder: If you become frustrated, the process will stall. Keep at it and soon you’ll have the knowledge of which psychic senses work best for you at this time.
